It is fair to say that certain astronomical theories can be proven to be scientific facts; the Earth spins on its axis; the Moon revolves around the Earth; all the planets and moons in the solar system revolve around the Sun; the Sun and its system of planets and moons revolve around some distant star for about 24,000 years, a celestial phenomenon which results in the backward movement of the equinoctial points around the zodiac, also known as the precession of the equinoxes.
There is still considerable conjecture, however, over the theory that our solar system revolves around what Vedic scholars refer to as the Grand Centre of the Universe (Vihnunabhi), also known as the seat of all creative power in existence (Brahma or the Universal Magnetism); the force which regulates the mental virtue of the internal world of Mankind (Dharma).
According to Sri Yukteswar, writing in his seminal work, The Holy Science; when the Sun, in its revolution round its distant dual in our binary solar system, comes to a place nearest the Grand Centre, with the Autumnal Equinox at the first point of Aries, Dharma becomes so well developed that Mankind easily comprehends all knowledge worth knowing, including his own divine spirit and immortality, as well as the nature of the electric universe and what Walter Russell expressed as the still, silent, sexless light of its omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, ever-giving, ever-loving Creator.
Twelve thousand years later, when the Sun and its system of planets and moons are furthest from the Grand Centre and the Autumnal Equinox is at the first point of Libra, Dharma becomes so incapacitated that Mankind loses the ability to comprehend all but the objects of the physical senses, and the solar system’s journey back towards the centre of the electrical universe begins once again, as does the gradual enlightenment of consciousness.
These two 12,000 years cycles are known as the Electric Couple and each brings about complete transformation, both internally in the minds and hearts of men, and externally in the material world. Since the development of conscious, blissful existence is a gradual process, as is its decline, each 12,000 year period is divided into four stages, each of which is divided into two equal periods of ascension and descent:
Kali Yuga Ascending/Descending, each lasting 1,200 years, during which the Sun passes through 1/20th of its orbit and Mankind learns/forgets how to comprehend that which is not perceived by sight, sound, taste, touch and smell; the grand illusion of Maya; the belief in that which is false knowledge.
Dwapara Yuga Ascending/Descending, each lasting 2,400 years, during which the Sun passes through 2/20th’s of its orbit and Mankind learns/forgets how to comprehend electricity and its attributes; the fundamental creative principals of the external world.
Treta Yuga Ascending/Descending, each lasting 3,600 years, during which the Sun passes through 3/20th’s of its orbit and Mankind learns/forgets how to comprehend divine magnetism, upon which all of creation depends for its very existence.
Satya Yuga Ascending/Descending, each lasting 4,800 years, during which the Sun passes though 4/20th’s of its orbit and Mankind learns/forgets how to comprehend the Supreme Reality of the Eternal Spirit of the Creator; the only real substance in existence.
The Indian law maker, Manu, considered by Sri Yukteswar to be a great sage from this solar system’s last Satya Yuga (Descending), succinctly describes the passing ages in this extract from Manu Samhita, which was an expression of ancient knowledge, as well as the spiritual foundation of Hindu philosophy and the caste system:
“Four thousands of years, they say, is the Krita Yuga (Satya Yuga or the “Golden Age” of the world). Its morning twilight has just as many hundreds, and its period of evening dusk is of the same length (400+4000+400=4,800). In the three other ages, with their morning and evening twilights, the thousands and hundreds decrease by one (300+3000+300=3,600). That forefold cycle comprising 12,000 years is called an Age of the Gods. The sum of a thousand divine ages constitutes one day of Brahma; and the same length is its night.”
Not being cognisant of the Solar Age we are actually experiencing is a considerable handicap to our connection to the Earth, its solar system and the great beyond. This fundamental realisation led my research into a body of work so rich in divinity that it cured me of the atheism I had been afflicted with since I was eight years old.
According to historical and archaeological evidence, around 700 BC, Yudhisthira, the wise and benevolent King of Indraprastha and Hastinapura, whom some Indian historians have described as the ‘undisputed Emperor of the world’, began to notice, along with the wise men of his court, the descending darkness of Kali Yuga. Yudhisthira was reluctant to announce this to the people of his kingdom, since he was concerned that the discouraging news would result in the kind of chaos he was attempting to avert for the highest benefit of all.
With regret, Yudhisthira concluded that Mankind was unable to subvert the inevitable descent of the Dark Ages, and decided to retire to the Himalayas with his brothers and closest associates, entrusting the kingdom to his grandson, Raja Parikshit, whose advisers knew as little as the young king about the significance of the information contained in the almanacs he now held in trust, let alone how to observe that the entire solar system was moving away from the Grand Centre, rather than towards it, in one of two elliptical motions which each last 12,000 years. Consequently, the end of the Age of Dwapara and the descent of Kali Yuga were not recorded in the almanacs at the correct time.
When Kali Yuga was last in ascendance, from around 500 AD, in the aftermath of the darkest period of the Grand Cycle, as consciousness began to reawaken, the wise men of India noticed the mistake and corrected the almanacs, but not without making an error of their own, based upon the calculations of Sanskrit scholar, Kalluka Bhatta, who wrongly interpreted Manu Samhita by assuming interpolating that the length of the yugas given refers to the Ages of the Gods, not Mankind.
Whilst it was correctly recorded that the beginning of the descending Kali Yuga was around 700 BC, it was also miscalculated that the new age of Kali would last for 1,200 days of Brahma or 432,000 years, instead of 1,200 years. As Swami Sri opined in The Holy Science, that really would be a dark prospect for humanity, if it were true, which astronomical evidence emphatically asserts it is not.
Nevertheless, Kalluka Bhatta’s miscalculation has resulted in some otherwise credible academics, teachers, researchers and gurus believing that conscious experience on this planet is getting darker, for all but the enlightened few who dedicate themselves to the service of others, rather than the service of the egoistic self. It is my contention that this miscalculation was the catalyst for Mankind’s current ignorance of its place in the Universe.
Even if the commonly held interpretations of the Mayan Prophesies had proved to be correct, it is still difficult to explain why the beginning of the long-count calendar [on the 11th of August 3114 BC] corresponds with the end of Treta Yuga and the beginning the descending Age of Dwapara, whereas the calendar’s end falls 312 years after the end of Kali Yuga ascending.
If Swami Sri Yukteswar’s calculations in The Holy Science are correct, the assertion that this solar system is passing through the 312th year of an ascending Dwapara Yuga is astronomically provable, in which case, the ascension of Universal Consciousness is more than 1,511 years underway, whether we are cognisant of that fact or not.
When Swami Sri’s wrote The Holy Science in the spring of 1894, the Vernal Equinox was 20 degrees, 54 feet and 36 inches from the first point of Aries (the fixed star, Ravati), at which point the Hindu almanacs showed that 1394 years had passed since the Vernal Equinox began to recede from the first point of Aries. Thus, by deducting 1,200 years from 1394, we understand that 194 was the year of the ascending Age of Dwapara, and that by adding 3,600 to 1394, which equals 4992 [1894 CE], we get the year in the almanacs at the time of Swami Sri’s literary endeavours.
Therefore, upon the acceptance of this interpretation of the Manu Samhita, the ascension of Universal Consciousness began around 500 AD, with the ascent of Kali Yuga, following the completion of its descent to the furthest point from the Sun, which means that the entire solar system will continue to be in ascension for about another ten thousand, four hundred and eighty eight years. The implications of this cosmological synthesis are all-encompassing.
In conclusion, based solely upon the results of my on-going research, it is my firm contention that any notion that the rise or fall of Mankind is dependent upon the events which take place from one specific day to another is moot, since the events which take place during every conscious moment experienced by every sentient being are of equal significance in every solar age. Nevertheless, a sustainable explanation of why the Mayan Calendar ended so abruptly without catastrophe, cataclysm or mass spiritual ascension remains elusive, except perhaps for the theory that is has been and remains largely misinterpreted by those individuals who have sought to profit from it, in one way or another.
Calendar Timelines
The long-count Mayan Calendar began on 11 August 3114 BC and ended on 21 December 2012.
The Egyptian, Jewish, Babylonian and Hellenic Calendars all became evident in the period 2494-2345 BC.
The Roman Calendar was reputedly invented by Romulus around 753 BC.
The Julian Calendar was introduced in the Roman Empire by Julius Caesar in 46 BC (709 ab urbe condita).
The Gregorian Calendar was introduced in the Papal States by the decree of Pope Gregory XIII on 24 February 1582 AD and was gradually adopted by/imposed upon the vast majority of the population of the planet.
